Copenhagen as a City of immigrants: A City Tour Through Past and Present
By Professor, Dr.Phil. Garbi Schmidt, RUC
Copenhagen is a multicultural and cosmopolitan city, and when you walk the streets of Copenhagen today, signs of migration are everywhere. But how has immigration shaped Copenhagen from the 19th century onwards? Which groups of immigrants, from Chinese and Muslim artists and guestworkers to Russian anarchists, have walked these narrow streets – and how were they received by society at large? Professor Garbi Schmidt takes you through the diverse and exiting history of Copenhagen as a city of immigrants.
We will meet at Kongens Nytorv and will walk through the Inner City to Assistens Cemetery in Nørrebro. We end at Vognmagergade.
